Introducing new skills and reinforcing academic concepts
already learned in Kindergarten, the children in
First Grade are introduced to a facet of Language Arts
which includes blends, compound words, syllables,
spelling as well as writing simple stories.
Reading skills are enhanced
and enriched. First Grade Mathematics involves
the recognition of more/less, counting by 2’s,
5’s and 10’s, knowing and solving addition and
subtraction as well as solving word problems.
The continuation of Social Studies, Science and Health,
Music, Art and Computer Lab are included in the First
Grade school year. |

The children in the Second Grade begin the school year
reviewing important Language Arts subjects and continue
with reading and spelling development. New topics
are introduced such as consonant digraphs, plurals,
suffixes and dictionary skills.
In the area of Mathematics, place value, time and money
concepts are included. Multiplication and
division, fractions and decimals are explored.
Social Studies, Science and Health and Computer studies
are explored through experimentation and independent
study. |
